Lotus Herbals Colorkick Kajal Review, Price, Buy Online India

I’ve gone missing the last few days, I know… I have been trying to squeeze time to finally watch Game of Thrones (yeah, I’m a few years late!), and I got so absorbed that I didn’t publish anything for a week! Yikess!! I’m on season 3 as I’ve been binge watching 

I love the color pink since the day I was born. No, honest! Pink, for me, defines freshness, it signifies beauty, it denotes charm, it symbolizes womanhood, it makes me feel cute! No wonder that my wardrobe is full of so much pink! Sometimes, it gets replaced by a deeper fuschia, a stronger magenta or a bubblier baby pink, but it has this special place in my heart since forever  And it would continue to have this special place.

As much as I love pink, similar is my love for a kajal. I just can’t live without it! Take away every makeup item from me, but just give me a stick of kajal and I’ll be happy on 6 days out of 7. And my thoughts would resonate with millions of Indian girls, who usually do away with a lot of other makeup but just stick with a kajal.

So, when I spotted this kajal by Lotus Herbals on NewU counters a few days back, I was obviously quite kicked as this is kajal comes in a bright pink stick! I was drooling at first sight, so I just had to bag this! Looks aside, let’s see how this fared!

Ingredients: Why, oh why, you don’t mention ingredients in detail? This only mentions botanical extracts and almond oil. Which, of course, can’t be the only ingredients. C’mon! This is something we put in our eyes, we need to know what’s going in there!

Packaging: I fell in love with the packing, at first glance! It’s all pink, all girly, and the stick would be very easily visible in your makeup pouch ‘coz of this bright color! It comes packed like Maybelline Colossal in a pink cardboard paper and plastic. The stick is a retractable kind, just like your Eyeconic and Colossal. One minor complaint that I have is that the cap on the stick isn’t as tight as it should be. So once, when I was carrying it in my jeans pocket, it kind of opened up in the pocket while I was pulling it out, and I was scared that I broke the stick. Thankfully, it didn’t break!

Claims: 

Color: Intense jet black is how I call it. It is one of the blackest kajals I have ever used.

Pigmentation: This stuff is insanely pigmented. Even one stroke leaves such a bold black color on the waterline. I’m highly impressed.

Texture: This is where I give this kajal a 10/10. Or even 12/10. I feel like I’m smoothing on some butter on my waterline. It is supremely smooth and soft. It never once tugs or pulls the skin near the eye while I apply it. I found it to be better than Colossal and Eyeconic in terms of texture.

Staying-power: This kajal lasts a good 7-8 hours at least on the waterline. It does happen I sometimes touch my eyes a bit and I find that it leaves tiny traces on my hands, but it mostly stays in place. On a few occasions, I have found faint smudging along the outer corners of my eyes.. But for a kajal so soft in texture to remain quite smudge-free for this long seems good enough. I have tried it as a liner on my upper lids, and apart from minor hiccups (when I touch my eyes), it remains unfazed. Girls with oily eyelids, I can’t correctly estimate if it would survive on you as my eyelids are normal/dry.

Despite most things good, I also faced a couple of disappointments:

1. The first day I used this on my waterline, one of my eyes began watering. This tear-shedding happened one more time after that, but never again. Before this kajal, I had been using Plum herbal kajal for almost 3 weeks (Read complete review here). I’m guessing that my eyes got very used to a purely herbal formula in them, hence they watered with Lotus Colorkick.. Though the watering subsided after a few minutes, but I still caution girls with sensitive eyes. This is the reason I insist that each company mention ingredients. I have never experienced watering with Maybelline Colossal, so comparing this aspect became essential.
2. Though I completely adore the fact that this kajal gives such insane pigmentation, but when time comes for me to remove it in the evening, I’m rubbing my eyes with a makeup remover almost 2-3 times just to get this out. All good things have a bad angle to them, you see…

This is after 8 hours of wearing this kajal! looks freshly applied, doesn’t it? I didn’t touch my eyes too much this day (on eyelids I’m wearing Maybelline Gel Eyeliner)

Price: Rs 199 for 0.28 grams of kajal. Technically, this is more expensive than Colossal, as you’re getting only 0.28 grams of product versus 0.35 grams for Maybelline Colossal

FFS Rating: 3.9/5 (everything aside, I love how soft this is, is smudge-free and so smooth to apply!)

Pros and Cons:

PROs:

1. Very smooth and soft textured
2. Almost completely smudge-free (if you touch your eyes a lot, then it might show a little, but on its own, it won’t smudge)
3. Doesn’t tug at the delicate skin around waterline
4. Extremely black and highly pigmented, so just 1 stroke is all you need (2, if you want a thicker line)
5. Competitively priced
6. Easily available now
7. How can I forget, the pink packing is extremely pleasing to the eye!

CONs:

1. The cap on the kajal I bought is not as tight as I expected (not a major con, but still…)
2. No ingredients mentioned on the pack
3. Quantity lesser than Maybelline Colossal/Lakme Eyeconic
4. Made my eyes water the first time I used it (but never since…)
5. Quite a task to remove all traces of this kajal at night

Final Word: So in “Kajal Wars”, would I pick this one over Colossal? Well, if not an outright yes, I believe I will keep alternating between these two now! (I love Maybelline too much to ever let go of their products completely  ) It has stolen my heart from the very first time, and apart from minor drawbacks, I find it to be a very good kajal for everyday use! Definitely worth buying!!
