Layer’r Wottagirl Body Splash Review, Price, Buy Online: Secret Crush, Mystic Island, Vanilla Twist Body Mists

Layer'r Wottagirl Body Splash Review 1

While my friends sitting in Americas and Europe and the western parts of the world are embracing summers with their arms and hearts wide open, we living closer to the equator (Tropic of Cancer..to be geographically correct) have a rough time in this sweltering heat. All day long, we either curse the heat or crave something cold and refreshing. This is how we spend our summer in India!

One major con of living in such a hot, humid country is that no perfume, no matter what luxury brand you buy, no matter how exotic and strong it may seem, just fades away with beads of perspiration…So you might be smelling oh-so-amazing when you leave home, but as soon as you board the metro or hail an auto, all signs of smelling good just go poof! What to do in such situations then, my dearies? You carry these cute plastic bottles of body splash to rescue you! Let’s get to the review now!!

Ingredients and Directions of Use:

Variants: When I bought these a few months back, there were only these 3 scents available: Mystic Island, Secret Crush and Vanilla Twist. On checking their website now, I find they have launched more! These are Emerald Fusion, Crimson Chic and Fresh Citrus. For now, let’s focus on the ones I have!

This is how the company describes them:

Secret Crush: A seductive fusion of ripe oranges and lemons, enveloped in the classic floral sweetness of jasmine.

Mystic Island: A luxurious blend of musk, bitter orange, lemon and woody notes, Mystic island is a mysterious, evocative fragrance crafted for the sultry goddess in you.

Vanilla Twist: A fun, flirty concoction of warm vanilla notes and a hint of coconut, Vanilla Twist is a delicate dreamy fragrance with rich, sensuous accents and irresistible charm.

Packaging: These come in sturdy, clear plastic bottles, which look very sleek and nice. Frankly, it can give the big luxury brands a run for their money! The spray works fine. The bottle caps could have been better, as these tend to open up in the bag. Otherwise, a thumbs up! Plus, I love the color theme: pink for secret crush, blue for mystic island and honey yellow for vanilla 🙂

A body splash is something that you use on the whole body immediately after a bath to keep you smelling great. However, I like to use them in ways more than this! I like to keep one in my bag to keep splashing on my pulses a few times a day to keep me fresh when I’m outdoors. I even use it on my clothes like a perfume. Of course, I have used these quickly after taking a shower. I find these quite multi-purpose. Plus, I’m not very fond of deodorants. So these are one of my favourite things to carry!

I’ll give you a mini review of all these three variants:

Secret Crush: Yes, this is my favourite out of all three! One reason is that the bottle is pink *wink*! The fragrance is a strong citrusy and fruity, perfect for a hot, sweaty day. It totally manages to uplift my mood! I have also used this in winters, to spice up a dull cold day, and it stayed on me all day long in the cold season. I generally don’t follow the warm scent in winter and floral/fruity in summer rule; I use whatever I want! Yeah, but I try using caramel/chocolaty and vanilla scents mostly in winters as they get too heavy and smother you in the summer…. Well, continuing with the review, I find that in summers, this one lasts for about 3 hours max only if you are outdoors. It may last even less depending on how much you sweat. If you remain indoors, especially in air conditioned environment, then this can last upto 5 hours, as I can detect the scent on me even in the evening. But yes, at the end of the day, I can smell a hint of it on my clothes. This one clearly rivals Victoria’s Secret Body Mists, as the scent of this one is slightly reminiscent of Wild Scarlet/Mango Temptation body mist.

FFS Rating: 4.5/5

Mystic Island: This is my second favourite. It is a sweet aquatic scent, which is quite fresh and very summery. It does seem to have slightly fruity notes to it, but the basic scent is aquatic. I really like it a lot! The lasting power is similar to Secret Crush. I think I would be using it a lot when I’d marred by humidity in the coming monsoon season. Also, I feel that the name ‘Mystic Island’ is really well chosen! Way to go, Layerr! I hadn’t expected such a good formula, plus nice product names too!

FFS Rating: 4/5

Vanilla Twist: You can see, I have used up almost half of this one, as I had been trying to use it as much as I could in the winter. Well, I do use it sometimes in the summer, but not as much. This one has a saccharin, honey-like sweetness to it, but I wouldn’t call it a true vanilla. I can’t detect much of coconut in the scent (thankfully!). It has slightly less staying power compared to the other variants.

FFS Rating: 3.75/5

Price: I bought these online, as I couldn’t find them in stores. I got this set of three for some Rs 540 (I don’t remember the exact amount). Individually, these come for Rs 180-195 approx.

Where to buy: You can buy these online. This set of three is available at Amazon here.

Pros and Cons:

PROs:

  1. Great scents, that feel quite similar to high end body mists
  2. Decent staying power for a body mist
  3. Quite affordable
  4. Sturdy bottles
  5. Travel friendly packing
  6. Cute names!

CONs:

  1. Haven’t seen these in any stores yet, only available online

I couldn’t find any more cons, I found these pretty great!

Final Word: If you’re bored to death of using deodorants and want something nice and girly for a change, these are worth a try! There is a scent for everyone, with fruity, aquatic and sweet ones available. I would like to see some strong floral scents from Layerr! I wish these became easily available in stores, so I could try the new variants before buying them 🙂

Lotus Herbals Lip Therapy Velvety Rose Review, Price, Buy Online India

Lotus Herbals Velvety Rose Lip Therapy Review1

Roses are red and violets are blue…honey is sweet but not as sweet as you! LOL 😀 This used to be a cute pop hit when I was a kid, by a band called Aqua! Those close to me can easily recall how crazy I was about this band when I used to be in 3rd Grade…well, enough of this embarrassing childhood nostalgia! Let’s talk business now 🙂

Lotus lip balms have been one of my favourite for a long time. I went crazy about them when I came to know that these come in sooo many flavours, with cocoa, vanilla, chocolate, cherry and rose in the list. I completely used up the cocoa and vanilla variants which I had bought last year, and that is a major achievement for a girl who has at least 20 lip balms lying around at any point in time. I hadn’t bought any Lotus lip balm in quite a while, so decided to try their rose variant now! Let’s jump into the review..

Ingredients and Claims:

Packaging: While I love the packaging a lot, with a tight shutting cap and a twist up mechanism, this particular one that I have has a fault somewhere, as I just can’t seem to twist the bullet back inside the tube. That obviously creates a mess, as I have to just keep it as is and shut the cap, hoping for no further mess. Otherwise I like the packaging quality. It comes in a cardboard blister, just like other lip balms.

My Experience: I have been using it on and off for the last few weeks, as I told you that I have too many lip balms and I’m spoilt for choice. But I had used Cocoa and Vanilla from the same range quite regularly, and found that Velvety Rose is no different when it comes to the effectiveness of the product.

Colour and Fragrance: This one claims to be tinted, but be warned that it not! I was expecting it to be a deep red in the tube, just like a real red rose, but the balm bullet turns out to be just a hint of baby pink. It has NO COLOR on the lips, just glides transparent. So if you seek a real tinted lip balm, I suggest you invest in the Cherry variant of this range (my friend uses it a lot, so I know for a fact that the Cherry variant is really pigmented, at least in the bullet). The fragrance is of roses, as expected, and quite pleasant to my nose. It doesn’t last for more than 2-3 min on the lips.

Efficacy: This is the best part of the deal. It is absolutely, one of the best and most effective lip balms I have used till date. What makes me feel a bit more proud is that Lotus is an Indian brand, plus it is herbal! A couple of swipes of this balm, and your lips instantly feel smooth and silky soft. It is one of the softest and smoothest feeling lip balms. It also contains some SPF, so you can wear it when out in the sun, but I don’t know how effective such a minor SPF would be, especially in these harsh summers.

Once applied, it can last upto 2-3 hours, depending on how much you eat or talk. Just like other lip balms, I feel a need to reapply after 2-3 hours.

Also, one thing that makes me go gaga over this product is that it ACTUALLY heals chapped lips. It relieves dryness of the lips in a jiffy. Using it at night leaves my lips really soft in the morning. I have used it under some drying matte lipsticks, and it helps prevent my lips from cracking due to the extremely drying formula that those lipsticks have. And I love the fact that these balms have no glitter or shiny particles in them.

So, all this makes it one of the best investments for dry, chapped lips.

FFS Rating: 4.25/5 (deducting on account of false ‘tinted’ claim, and the defective packing that I got…see, I still couldn’t deduct more than 0.75!)

Price and Quantity: Rs 135 for 4 grams

Where to Buy: You can lay your hands on this one at any of Dabur NewU stores, or online from any of the portals. You can buy it from Nykaa here.

Pros and Cons:

PROs:

  1. Extremely effective at healing chapped lips
  2. Makes lips feel smooth instantly, and feels like a velvety cushion!
  3. Has some SPF
  4. Is herbal
  5. Lovely scent of roses! (a unique lip balm scent)
  6. Travel friendly and hygienic packing
  7. Affordable
  8. Easily available in stores and online

CONs:

  1. False claims of being a tinted lip balm. It has NO tint, whatsoever.
  2. Defective packing with faulty twist-up mechanism. Can’t be forgiven easily, as it embarrasses me in public places 🙁
  3. Scent not very long lasting

Final Word: A lip balm range definitely worth investing in. It does what a lip balm is supposed to do, offers some SPF protection, plus has this unique scent of roses! I love how smooth it leaves my lips, so I reach for this one quite often. Recommended!

Himalaya Herbals Under Eye Cream Review, Price India

Himalaya Under Eye Cream Review 1

They say, “Eyes are the windows to the soul…”! How very right is this. No matter what expression you carry on your face, your eyes give away the reality. They show it when you’ve had a difficult day or a sleepless night. They give away when you’ve shed a few tears, or have had a hearty laugh. And so they really are a mirror of one’s soul.

Taking care of eyes is something we all completely neglect, me included. We stare at TV and laptop screens all day long, and while away our free time bent on our smartphones, chatting away or playing Candy Crush. Add to that a few late nights a week, and unhealthy food, and what we are left with is glaring dark circles. Us bespectacled folks have even a harder time, as wearing glasses for so long  makes the problem of dark circles even worse (dunno the clinical reason, but my hypothesis is that the skin gets exposed to lesser oxygen due to the glasses 😛 )

I have had the problem of dark circles for years. While earlier I didn’t get bothered as much, now I feel was high time I started taking care of this problem, as it would just get worse, sadly.

I didn’t want to spend a bomb on my first ever under-eye cream, so I brought home his little tube by Himalaya. So did it do anything at all for me? Let’s find out…

Ingredients and Directions for Use:

Himalaya Under Eye Cream Review 3

Packaging: It comes in a plastic tube very similar to the Himalaya lip balm we all know and have used. In fact, if both the tubes are lying around you, it is quite hard to tell them apart, so exercise caution and don’t use this eye cream on your lips! The tube is sturdy, with a screw cap. It has a very narrow opening, perfect to dispense tiny amounts that you’ll need on the under eye area. I’m glad that the packing is so practical, prevents wastage and helps avoid contamination by targeted application, as you don’t need to dip hands in a pot. The tube came in a cardboard box with product details.

Himalaya Under Eye Cream Review 2

My Experience: As I told you, I had been looking for an eye cream, and after searching high and low, I decided to start with a common, affordable brand. This one claimed to reduce dark circles (which I didn’t believe with all my heart) and fine lines (which I had hopes for).

I incorporated this in my daily regimen, and have been using it quite religiously for just over a month. I have been using it in the morning before dabbing on some BB cream on my under eyes (well, I do need something to hide my dark circles..) and in the evening after removing my makeup (which is mostly, just kajal).

Appearance and Fragrance: It is a fleshy colored cream, but leaves no color on the skin. Thankfully, it is completely free of any fragrance.

Efficacy: You need a minute amount of the cream. The narrow nozzle helps to squeeze out the correct amount quite easily.

The cream is quite easy to spread, and not very greasy. It absorbs within a minute of massaging, and that is a very good thing. I always try to use my ring finger to gently massage this cream on my sunken under eye area.

Immediately after applying this cream, I find that the under-eye area feels ever so slightly pulled. It is not an unpleasant sensation, mind you. It feels like the cream is working.

Himalaya Under Eye Cream Review 4

But now, coming to the most important point: did this help in reducing my dark circles or fine lines?

The answer, as expected, is NO.

It hasn’t reduced my dark circles even a bit. They are as dark as they were a month back 🙁 Well, I expected so… I have read hundreds of reviews for eye creams, and none of them seem to work even a tiny bit on dark circles, even the high-end ones, so I am not quite angry with this humble, cheap tube by Himalaya. Still, I had my weak expectations, and they were sloshed away…

The thing that made me sad was that it didn’t do anything for the fine lines that I have under my eyes. They are just the same. I had felt that a cream specifically targeted for the under eye area might help me out in reducing these lines. But sadly, it didn’t work.

Himalaya Under Eye Cream Review 5

FFS Rating: 2.5/5

Price: Rs 165 for 15 ml

Where to Buy: I got this from a hypermart. You can find this one easily anywhere. It is also available online.

Pros and Cons:

PROs:

  1. Sufficiently moisturizing
  2. Not very greasy or sticky
  3. Absorbs quickly
  4. Practical packing: the nozzle gives out just the required amount of cream
  5. Very affordable
  6. Easily available in stores and online

CONs:

  1. Did nothing at all for dark circles or fine lines, and this was supposed to be its main job!
  2. Loaded with parabens
  3. Well, it isn’t doing anything that my regular face cream can’t do, so what’s the point? 😛

Repurchase: Nope! I’ll use up this tube though…

Final Word: An under eye cream that only moisturizes well, and nothing apart from that. If you are looking for something that can help your dark circles or fine lines, this can disappoint you. Alas, my search for a miraculous under-eye cream..continues…

Lotus Herbals Colorkick Kajal Review, Price, Buy Online India

Lotus Colorkick Kajal Review 1

I’ve gone missing the last few days, I know… I have been trying to squeeze time to finally watch Game of Thrones (yeah, I’m a few years late!), and I got so absorbed that I didn’t publish anything for a week! Yikess!! I’m on season 3 as I’ve been binge watching 🙂

I love the color pink since the day I was born. No, honest! Pink, for me, defines freshness, it signifies beauty, it denotes charm, it symbolizes womanhood, it makes me feel cute! No wonder that my wardrobe is full of so much pink! Sometimes, it gets replaced by a deeper fuschia, a stronger magenta or a bubblier baby pink, but it has this special place in my heart since forever 🙂 And it would continue to have this special place.

As much as I love pink, similar is my love for a kajal. I just can’t live without it! Take away every makeup item from me, but just give me a stick of kajal and I’ll be happy on 6 days out of 7. And my thoughts would resonate with millions of Indian girls, who usually do away with a lot of other makeup but just stick with a kajal.

So, when I spotted this kajal by Lotus Herbals on NewU counters a few days back, I was obviously quite kicked as this is kajal comes in a bright pink stick! I was drooling at first sight, so I just had to bag this! Looks aside, let’s see how this fared!

Ingredients: Why, oh why, you don’t mention ingredients in detail? This only mentions botanical extracts and almond oil. Which, of course, can’t be the only ingredients. C’mon! This is something we put in our eyes, we need to know what’s going in there!

Lotus Colorkick Kajal Review 2

Packaging: I fell in love with the packing, at first glance! It’s all pink, all girly, and the stick would be very easily visible in your makeup pouch ‘coz of this bright color! It comes packed like Maybelline Colossal in a pink cardboard paper and plastic. The stick is a retractable kind, just like your Eyeconic and Colossal. One minor complaint that I have is that the cap on the stick isn’t as tight as it should be. So once, when I was carrying it in my jeans pocket, it kind of opened up in the pocket while I was pulling it out, and I was scared that I broke the stick. Thankfully, it didn’t break!

Claims:

Lotus Colorkick Kajal Review 4

Color: Intense jet black is how I call it. It is one of the blackest kajals I have ever used.

Pigmentation: This stuff is insanely pigmented. Even one stroke leaves such a bold black color on the waterline. I’m highly impressed.

Texture: This is where I give this kajal a 10/10. Or even 12/10. I feel like I’m smoothing on some butter on my waterline. It is supremely smooth and soft. It never once tugs or pulls the skin near the eye while I apply it. I found it to be better than Colossal and Eyeconic in terms of texture.

Lotus Colorkick Kajal Review 5

Staying-power: This kajal lasts a good 7-8 hours at least on the waterline. It does happen I sometimes touch my eyes a bit and I find that it leaves tiny traces on my hands, but it mostly stays in place. On a few occasions, I have found faint smudging along the outer corners of my eyes.. But for a kajal so soft in texture to remain quite smudge-free for this long seems good enough. I have tried it as a liner on my upper lids, and apart from minor hiccups (when I touch my eyes), it remains unfazed. Girls with oily eyelids, I can’t correctly estimate if it would survive on you as my eyelids are normal/dry.

Lotus Colorkick Kajal Review 7

It smudges very faintly despite repeated attempts; similar minor smudging is something you can expect if you touch your eyes a bit

Despite most things good, I also faced a couple of disappointments:

  1. The first day I used this on my waterline, one of my eyes began watering. This tear-shedding happened one more time after that, but never again. Before this kajal, I had been using Plum herbal kajal for almost 3 weeks (Read complete review here). I’m guessing that my eyes got very used to a purely herbal formula in them, hence they watered with Lotus Colorkick.. Though the watering subsided after a few minutes, but I still caution girls with sensitive eyes. This is the reason I insist that each company mention ingredients. I have never experienced watering with Maybelline Colossal, so comparing this aspect became essential.
  2. Though I completely adore the fact that this kajal gives such insane pigmentation, but when time comes for me to remove it in the evening, I’m rubbing my eyes with a makeup remover almost 2-3 times just to get this out. All good things have a bad angle to them, you see…
Lotus Colorkick Kajal Review 6

This is after 8 hours of wearing this kajal! looks freshly applied, doesn’t it? I didn’t touch my eyes too much this day (on eyelids I’m wearing Maybelline Gel Eyeliner)

Price: Rs 199 for 0.28 grams of kajal. Technically, this is more expensive than Colossal, as you’re getting only 0.28 grams of product versus 0.35 grams for Maybelline Colossal

FFS Rating: 3.9/5 (everything aside, I love how soft this is, is smudge-free and so smooth to apply!)

Where to buy: It is quite easily available at NewU counters across India. You can buy it online at Lotus Herbals website here.

Pros and Cons:

PROs:

  1. Very smooth and soft textured
  2. Almost completely smudge-free (if you touch your eyes a lot, then it might show a little, but on its own, it won’t smudge)
  3. Doesn’t tug at the delicate skin around waterline
  4. Extremely black and highly pigmented, so just 1 stroke is all you need (2, if you want a thicker line)
  5. Competitively priced
  6. Easily available now
  7. How can I forget, the pink packing is extremely pleasing to the eye!

CONs:

  1. The cap on the kajal I bought is not as tight as I expected (not a major con, but still…)
  2. No ingredients mentioned on the pack
  3. Quantity lesser than Maybelline Colossal/Lakme Eyeconic
  4. Made my eyes water the first time I used it (but never since…)
  5. Quite a task to remove all traces of this kajal at night

Final Word: So in “Kajal Wars”, would I pick this one over Colossal? Well, if not an outright yes, I believe I will keep alternating between these two now! (I love Maybelline too much to ever let go of their products completely 🙂 ) It has stolen my heart from the very first time, and apart from minor drawbacks, I find it to be a very good kajal for everyday use! Definitely worth buying!!
